20 Seconds of Mindfulness

Soap destroys the coronavirus, that's why washing your hands often with soap and water is one of the best ways you can protect yourself. The US-based Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommend washing your hands for at least 20-30 seconds. Consider using that time to take a few mindful breaths in and out. How to take a mindful breath: 🔸Scan your body from head to toe and soften and relax your muscles. 🔸Pick a spot in your body (your nose, lungs or belly) and feel your breath as it moves in and out. Try to take it just one breath at a time. Each cycle of in and out counts as 1. 🔸When your attention drifts from how your body (nose/lungs/belly) feels, gently guide it back. 🔸Try not to judge yourself when your attention strays (it will! you're human!). Just start over with the next breath. 🔸Repeat (Not sure how long 20 seconds lasts? Try using the timer on your phone a few times until you get a sense of it, or count about 4-5 mindful breaths). Taking microsteps like these helps us slow the spread of the virus, keep up with our mindfulness practice, and sprinkle moments of calm throughout the day. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments.💛
