Mental health is just important as physical health, and World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.
Mental health is important because your actions are impacted by your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Poor mental health will impact how you think, behave, and feel every day. It also affects your ability to cope with stress, overcome challenges, build relationships, and recover from life’s setbacks and hardships.
Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life. Small things like exercising, getting enough sleep, spending time with friends and loved ones, and eating healthy meals, can be helpful in boosting your emotional health.
Mindfulness and meditation can also be a helpful practice to add to your self-care regimen by bolstering your wellbeing in areas such as stress reduction, emotional regulation, reduced rumination, and reducing the effects of mood disorders.
Good mental health doesn't just "happen" much like good physical health doesn't just happen. Today as we celebrate World Mental Health Day, what steps will you take to boost your mental health?
